WHAT planet do these people live on? ?Scheme in pipeline to ease jams in town?, Thursday, May 31. If only Okehampton?s congestion could all be solved by changing one, badly placed, zebra crossing! For any of us regularly caught in the mess of traffic around the supermarkets we know that the blame is not on the crossing. The blame should be laid squarely at the feet of all the councillors, both local and county, who were stupid enough to give permission for planning in the first place. Only councillors would grant permission for three supermarkets in such close proximity, two being accessed by ?dead end? roads, one using the main town?s car park, whilst also building a primary school in the same area, so parents are using the same access and car park! These possibly being the same councillors who have granted so much planning permission on the opposite side of the town, therefore increasing ten-fold the traffic now having to use these roads? Most of this was avoidable when, at least one that I can remember of the large supermarkets tried, and failed, to get planning permission to build near the Mole Avon area, spreading the congestion and therefore, easing the town centre problem. I know many people think that a new primary school is to be built there, but how many know that no date for that to be built has been given, and the houses will be built before the school. Where are these new primary children to go? The only option will be that very same school reached by that congested part of town! Mrs Y Street 29 Saddlers Way Okehampton
