THE Co-operative in Tavistock's Market Street re-opens today (Thursday), following a £450,000 investment to transform the store and create a new shopping experience for the community.
The shop closed on Thursday, October 23, to embark on a re-fit to redefine the store with an enhanced in-store bakery range and a focus on fresh, healthy foods, meal ideas and essentials.
The transformation will be complete with new flooring and, refrigeration to enhance and extend its meat and dairy produce and an expansion to its chilled wine and beer range.
The store is also spearheading a new role, known as a Community Pioneer, where members of the food store team, Julie Munn-Tyrell and Sophie Mount, will also work to foster involvement in community activities, from local fundraising initiatives to helping to understand and develop solutions to meet local community needs.
Darren Bishop, manager of The Co-operative food store in Tavistock, said: 'We are thrilled to be making such a significant investment in Tavistock and delighted to have a fantastic new food store with which to serve the community — it is an exciting time for the whole team.
'The Co-operative is a community retailer and we are committed to playing an active role in local life, embracing the area's community spirit.
'The store will be a hub for the local community and customers will be able to find out what is going on locally and learn about how The Co-operative can benefit local groups.'
