A CHARITY that supports disabled and disadvantaged people was the beneficiary of the Waitrose Okehampton Community Matters Scheme recently.
St Loye’s Foundation received the highest number of votes from the local community in the scheme at the Okehampton store.
Each month, every Waitrose branch donates £1,000 to local good causes, divided between three organisations.
Customers are given green tokens at the end of their shop and are given the choice to support one of the three organisations.
At the end of the month the money is divided according to the number of tokens received.
St Loye’s Foundation Cosdon Friends’ group put together a great application gaining a place in the Okehampton Waitrose branch and at the end of the month St Loye’s Foundation received the most votes.
Laura Grant, branch manager at Waitrose Okehampton, said: ‘It’s highly important to us that we help to support the local community and the Community Matters scheme enables us to provide support to the worthwhile causes that are at the heart of the community.
‘I am delighted to have been able to support the good work of the St Loye’s Foundation.’
Louise Jones, corporate and trust fundraiser for St Loye’s Foundation, said: ‘To have such positive support from the community is wonderful. Waitrose’s Community Matters scheme is a great way for us to engage with the local community and their support of St Loye‘s is so appreciated. This will allow us to continue to support disabled and disadvantaged people to transform their lives.’
