A VILLAGE hall in East Cornwall is set for a grand makeover thanks to a partnership with The Prince’s Foundation.

And now the local community are being invited to share their ideas on the refurbishment and future use.

The Prince’s Foundation will be bringing its unique and distinct design and building expertise to the village to assist with the refurbishment of the village hall, which is thought to have been commissioned in 1915 by the then Prince of Wales for the parish of Stoke Climsland.

The Prince’s Foundation has a proud reputation for helping keep alive the UK’s built heritage of its past. It does this successfully by supporting and strengthening local communities to restore and reuse important local buildings.

Discussions will soon be taking place between The Prince’s Foundation, the village hall committee, the Duchy of Cornwall (which owns the hall), representatives from the parish council, neighbourhood plan team and other parish facilities on the various options, timescales and logistics regarding the refurbishment .

The village hall committee is keen to preserve and protect the building while making it fit for the 21st century, entailing the use of green and efficient building materials and practices, mending and re-moulding the hall rather than just repairing it so that the restoration is sensitive to the building’s past but at the same time ensuring its future use has a relevance and benefit to all generations.

The Duchy of Cornwall is committed to supporting and working with the village hall committee and the local community of Stoke Climsland in making the hall a long-term community asset that will benefit future generations, as well as ensuring conservation of the village’s built heritage and enhancing its community facilities.

While the village hall committee would like to see the building used for a variety of community activities, an important part of the process is working and consulting with the local community to ensure that the refurbishment and future use of he hall reflects the needs of the whole parish.

The village hall committee is very keen to receive ideas from all members of the community regarding this project and requests that all thoughts and ideas, whether outline or specific, are put in writing and emailed to [email protected] or handed into the village post office marked for the attention of the secretary of the Village Hall Committee. To ensure the project can start in earnest, all initial ideas should be received by July 31.
