A WIDE range of embroidery techniques will be on display at Buckland Abbey from September 8 to 13. The exhibition, entitled ?Stitches in Time?, is being held by Tavistock and District Embroiderer?s Guild, and will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the guild. It is also part of a nationwide event called ?Making Visible? to mark the centenary of the Embroiderers? Guild itself. Visitors will be able to see a variety of work, including some by the flourishing Tavistock Young Embroiderers? group. Members of the Tavistock Guild are currently working on other community projects as a follow-up to the hanging for the Town Hall presented to the Town Council in 2000, including a commission for a hanging celebrating 500 years of the history of Cotehele House. During August members have been running classes at Cotehele House for young people in an effort to promote stitching to a wider area. Embroidery is now an expressive medium as well as a decorative art and leisure pursuit. Any adults wishing to join the guild, which meets at the British Legion Hall in Tavistock twice monthly on Mondays from 10.30am to 3.30pm, should contact secretary Rosemary Smith on 01566 782907 or email [email protected]">[email protected] Beginners and experienced stitchers are all welcome.
