Tavistock men's first X1 1

OPMs 1

A GUTSY draw with the Old Plymothians on Saturday left Tavistock hockey club still in close contention for winning South West division one.

The defence conceded a short corner within the first 30 seconds - this was slickly put away by the OPMs and Tavistock heads dropped.

Tenacious work from Brian Rodda cut out half a dozen ensuing OPM rampages, any one of which could have put Tavistock out of the game. Tavistock finally settled. Surging runs from Jeffrey and shrewd reading of the game from OPM nemesis Phil Edwards put the opposition on the back foot towards the end of the first half.

Tavistock opened the second half with conviction. The pressure told on the OPMs and their vocal attitude added an acrimonious edge to the game.

Tavistock looked more dangerous up front but it was not until the last minute that Ricky Bellard swept Cowan's immaculate pass into the back netting.

Tavistock showed they have the stomach for a fight-back but they can and must play better if they want to take the title.

Man of the match: Ricky Bellard.

Next game: Marjons C away.
