WITH just days to go before the February 17 deadline, nominations are being sought for an innovative awards scheme to mark the achievements of people, organisations and businesses in West Devon. Borough mayor Cllr Jayne Hill is leading the West Devon Mayoral Awards this year. The awards fall into two categories ? to a young person under the age of 18 and to an organisation or business in the borough or a person aged 18 years or over. Cllr Hill, who will be one of the judges of the awards, said: ?I am really pleased to continue the West Devon tradition of rewarding the unsung heroes of our borough, particularly those people who work quietly and tirelessly within our communities to improve the quality of all our lives.? Last year the young person?s award went to Okehampton College student Richard Mortimore for his volunteer work. The second award was presented to Dr Paul Nielson, who worked unstintingly to help bring a new £5-million hospital to Okehampton, which opened in May 2003. Nominations for this year?s awards must be received by Friday February 17 and the winners will be announced early in March. So, if you know of any person, business or organisation you think should be in line for an award, send in your nominations. To receive a nomination form, contact mayor?s secretary Janet Rosser on 01822 813629. Alternatively, you can collect a form at the borough council offices at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock or Oaklands Drive, Okehampton.
