Cullompton 17

TAVISTOCK?s hopes of a league and cup double remain alive after their victory in the semi-final of the Devon Junior Cup against Cullompton at Sandy Park on Easter Saturday ? Tavistock have already secured the Devon Division 1 championship.

Tavistock opened the scoring when Josh Sutton converted a penalty goal on ten minutes. This settled Tavistock?s nerves and they then produced some trademark play which saw them run in four unanswered tries before half-time.

Tavistock opened their try account when centre Duncan Law broke through the opposition defence. Hooker Rob Sleep got the second try when he burst through from close range and Mike Lyddon got the third when he used his pace and power to break the Cullompton line.

The final try of the half was scored by number eight Jude Rotton when he ran in from the half-way line. Sutton converted all four tries.

In the second half Tavistock took their foot off the gas and both sides scored three tries. For Cullompton winger James Baker scored two and Simon Franklin one with Joe Cannings converting one.

For Tavistock, second row Andy Hunt grabbed a try to add to his season?s tally.

Rotton got a second try and Sean Buttle, replacing skipper Lee Greatrex, also dived over. Sutton converted one second half try.

This Saturday Tavistock take on Devonport High School Old Boys at home in the final league game of the season, kick off 3pm. Everyone welcome to help celebrate a successful league season.
