Whitchurch Wayfarers 1st XI v Roborough

ROBOROUGH were the visitors to Whitchurch House on Saturday for an important game for both sides ? a victory for Whitchurch would keep them right up with the league leaders, Roborough?s loss would have virtually finished off their promotion chase.

Batting first, the

visitors wasted no time. Amassing 173 for the first wicket, they went on to post a large but getable 241-4.

In reply, the hosts got off to a fine start. Phil Mansfield was in fine form.

He played shots to all parts of the ground. When he finally went for 49, Martin Credicott carried on taking the onslaught to the fielders. He recorded his highest score for the Wayfarers, 80.

With wickets falling at vital stages, the hosts made hard work of finishing the game off.

Bray arrived at the crease. He and Lavis were the last wickets, with 13 required off the final over.

Lavis put bat to ball, hitting 10 off 4 balls. Unfortunately, his next shot found the tallest fielder, who managed to get his fingertips to it and take the vital catch.

Whitchurch, despite this loss, remain in second place, five points behind the leaders.

This weekend brings a double-league, home on Saturday against Exeter South, away on Sunday to Ivybridge, both 2pm.
