Tamar League A division Ordulph v Lewdown THERE was no change from last season with fantastic weather and the Ordulph skipper losing the toss and the home team winning with assistance in the form of two South Africans and an Australian. On a dour, low and dead batting track Lewdown elected to field. Much to their chagrin, the opening bowler uncharacteristically saw his first ball soar at flight path altitude passed the bemused batsman. The rest of the Lewdown early bowling didn't improve too much, enabling the Ordulph to race past 50 in six overs. However, the run rate soon dried up and wickets began to tumble and Ordulph were reduced to 82- 6, despite a great knock from Alan Melhuish (37) with Chappell contributing a steady 14 in support. With a worried captain Folley, the last part of Ordulph's overseas contingent came to the crease in the form of Steve Dembitzer, who given our briefing that he was only a bowler promptly dispatched the Lewdown bowling all round the park with a blistering array of shots including two massive sixes. Finishing with a superb 60, he was ably supported by Nathan Whitfield (21) and Eddie (Large) Wood (19). With late thrashing cameos from Dave Langton (13no) and Dennis Law (17no) Ordulph finished on a formidable 217-8 given the difficult low bouncing wicket. Pick of the bowlers was Lewdown first team captain Dave Ball (4-39) who made good use of the conditions with an accurate spell of bowling. The Lewdown openers not being phased, took the game to Ordulph scoring briskly with openers Dave Ball (30) and Nick Hayden (22) using the pace of Ordulph's Dembitzer to good effect. Then unfortunately for Lewdown the South African Nicho Oliver came on and gave one of the most accurate medium pace bowling displays ever seen in an Ordulph side destroying the Lewdown top order. By the end of his spell of 10 overs he had accounted for four of the top order bats for a miserly 14 runs. Lewdown never recovered from this and soon shut up shop content to finish on 127-8 denying Ordulph their last bowling point. l Next week Ordulph travel to Cornwood.
