HOLLYWOOD glamour, complete with a red carpet, was recently enjoyed by aspiring directors at a glitz-filled evening in Okehampton College. The cream of West Devon talent went on display as the red carpet was rolled out at Okehampton College in April to celebrate the school's first ever Oscars Awards Evening. The event offered people the chance to view and judge all of the media video projects that were completed this year by students from years 10 though to 13. Productions from five separate categories were shown to the audience, who were then asked to vote for their favourite from each category. The categories were years 10 and 11 animations, year 11 music videos, year 11 film trailers, year 12 children's TV programmes and year 13 film trailers. In true Oscar style, formal attire was adopted for the evening as dinner jackets and ball gowns filled the corridors with the winners receiving their very own 'golden' statue. Dom Carnell, organiser of the event and head of media at the college, said: 'It was really great to showcase the results of all the students' hard work. 'The night gave everyone a good laugh and I think we've now started an annual event.' Lawrence Waldon, a year 12 student involved in the event, added: 'It was fun to view our projects on the big screen as well as having the opportunity to see what everyone else had done.' Walking away as winners were 'The Great Escape' in animations, 'Glamourous' in the year 11 music videos, 'Opposite Collision' in the year 11 film trailers, 'Realm' in the children's TV shows and 'A Little Story About Me' in the year 13 trailers.
