A ONE-stop job shop in Okehampton Town Hall on October 12 will open up training and employment opportunities for local people.
The initiative 'Training Works' will bring training providers, employment advisors, job centre staff and potential employees all together in one venue.
'Local employers need local people,' said Okehampton Job Centre manager Ann Oliver. 'The question was how to get them together — with that in mind I invited all the local training providers to a meeting in order to discuss the solution and from that 'Training Works' was born.'
The Turret Room at the town hall will be the venue for a one-stop job shop where people can see all the latest vacancies live 'on line' and on hand will be a lone parent advisor, a disability advisor and representatives from training organisations from whom advice will be available regarding various Government-funded programmes and courses.
Support has been gained from local employers and the community who have donated prizes and a free draw will take place on the day. Prizes available included two tickets for a Plymouth Argyle match.
'The success of this initiative will be dependent on the number of people who attend,' said Mrs Oliver. 'Young or old, employed or unemployed, all are welcome.
'With the contribution made by so many organisations and their staff, the experience and knowledge available will be immense, however, we can only give help and advice to those who arrive.'
The event can help anyone looking for a job or wishing to change from one job to another or those wanting to improve their skills.
