AN AMERICAN adventure by two West Devon fund-raisers, who cycled 4,400 miles coast to coast across the US, raised a total of £1,500 for the Children?s Hospice South West, which was recently presented to the charity.

Stewart Pearce, from Crapstone, and John Crossley, from Dousland, started out on their marathon journey from Astoria, Oregon, in July.

They followed a route which took them through the Rocky Mountains and the mid-West before finishing in Yorktown, Virginia.

The two men averaged around 70 miles a day during their challenge.

The cyclists presented a cheque for £1,500 to Bill Griffin, Devon appeals co-ordinator for the children?s hospice.

Mr Griffin said: ?Virtually all of the £1.75-million needed each year to run the children?s hospice at Little Bridge House comes from the general public of the South West, so we are enormously grateful to Stewart and John for this magnificent feat and for the great amount of money thereby raised for us.?
