DECORATE a bra and get ready — the Tavistock Star Trekkers' walk is back and aims to be bigger than ever. Due to the overwhelming success of the 2006 walk to raise money for two units at Derriford Hospital, the organisers have announced they are repeating the walk this year. A group of Tavistock women, known as the Tavistock Star Trekkers, last year decided they wanted to stage their own event in the town to correspond with the Moonwalk in London, which also raises money for cancer care. A total of 339 women took part in the 14-mile walk around Tavistock at midnight and together managed to help raise £36,000 for the breast cancer unit and the oncology unit at Derriford. This year's walk takes place on May 19 and costs £12 per person, with the organisers asking each walker to raise at least £20 in sponsorship money. Bev Rodgers, one of seven organisers from Tavistock Star Trekkers, said: 'There has been a lot of interest in the walk this year as so many people have phoned us to see if it was going to happen again. 'Last year, 339 people took part and this year we are hoping for 500 or more to take part. We are hosting the event exactly one year on from the first bra walk we held, and it still coincides with the London Moonwalk.' If anyone would like to join the walk, or would like an application form, contact either Pam Thurgood on 01822 615323 or Bev on 07974616627. Application forms can also be collected from the Times office.
