Tavistock Ladies first XI 1 Plymouth and Marjons second XI 0 THE game opened with Tavistock gaining early possession of the ball which allowed Becky Lamb and Sarah Barratt to have some good runs up the pitch. Lisa Butler played well for Tavistock and did some good linking passes with Robynne Honey who was working well on the wing. Susannah Boulle kept strong in defence and when the ball was retained by the opposition, good hassling and holding up play allowed Tavistock to re-group and win some good tackles. The ball was being switched cleanly by the opposition and there was often a gap through the middle which Tavistock were not picking up. Laura Stapleton and Fiona Dunn for the home side prevented any major attack from entering the ?D? and with Zoe Viggers in goal making some good saves it was difficult for the opposition to get through. The score at half-time reflected the pitch play as it was very much a game being played through the middle quarters of the pitch. Tavistock were awarded short corners and although the ball that was injected was strong Tavistock could not seem to find the back of the goal. It was from one of these short corners that Stapleton scored but unfortunately the ball had just hit her foot as she went to strike, resulting in the goal being dis-allowed. The opposition seemed to get a second wind but the strong midfield play of Sarah Holton held them out and she made some good tackles. Gaspar was working hard up front and with the newly supported Laura Armstrong running up and down it was evident that Tavistock were keen to score a goal. With only seconds before the final whistle, Tavistock were awarded a short corner. Seconds later the whistle went and Tavistock brought all their players around the ?D?. An excellent ball from Armstrong out to Stapleton resulted in a dominant strike which flew cleanly past the keeper. Tavistock had won the match from what was a most enjoyable and challenging game.
