LET battle commence — the Charter Hall on Okehampton will be rocking in coming weeks, as the heats of this year's Battle of the Bands approaches. The event, sponsored by Steven's Estate Agents, the Plymouth Inn, Balsdon Vehicle Services and Okehampton United Charity, promises another great contest. Seventeen acts will be competing for places at the Party in the Park finale in August. From rock to acoustic indie, pop-punk and dirty blues, the heats promise something for everyone. This year's competition is extra special, as it is the tenth anniversary of the competition. Okehampton will be represented strongly in this year's competition, with entries from local acts Faustus MD, The Copperfield Ensemble and Jordan Hookway representing the town in each heat. Doors for heat one on Wednesday, June 25 open at 7pm, with the first act taking to the stage at 7.30pm. Admission is free but donations are encouraged and the event relies on public support. The Plymouth Inn will run a licensed bar at each heat. Heats two and three take place on Wednesday, July 2 and Wednesday, July 9, with the Party in the Park finale on August 2. The event promises a day of great entertainment with music, food, a bar, and the AC/DC tribute act Livewire headlining. BBC Radio Devon's Matt Woodley will be compère for the event.
