PLANS for a toilet in a popular Callington park have been put on hold following a request for an outside stage on the same ground.

It is hoped the toilet and stage might be able to compliment each other at the site on Launceston Road recreation ground.

In May this year, at a meeting of Callington Town Council, a request was made by a member of the public as to whether toilets could be installed on the grounds.

Councillors felt it was a good idea and agreed to look into some figures and report back at the Outside Services Committee meeting last week (June 21).

It was during this committee meeting that councillors heard of the proposal raised by One Callington for a stage on the recreation ground.

One Callington, a group made up of various organisations, approached the council to inform members that there were a number of choirs in the town and asked if it would be possible to provide an outside stage for the talented singers.

At the meeting, the chair and vice chair agreed to meet with One Callington’s secretary, in the first instance, to get a better understanding of the group’s aspirations and ideas.

‘After this item on the agenda, the figures for toilet facilities were discussed.

It was proposed by Cllr Maria Coakley, seconded by Cllr Karen Gold, and agreed unanimously, that a decision on this would be deferred pending the discussions regarding the stage idea.

Callington town clerk Helen Dowdall said: ‘They are meeting together in order to clarify One Callington’s aspirations and establish what they want.

‘Do they want the next Minack Theatre or are they just wanting a couple of picnic benches?

‘The councillors agreed to defer the toilet idea pending the discussion about the stage as the two plans may compliment each other.’
