STAFF at a Tavistock opticians are currently holding a ?spec-tac-ular? month of fundraising in aid of Guide Dogs. The team from Specsavers Opticians, at 3 West Street, kicked off the fundraising activity on Saturday August 6 when six members of the team paid to don sunglasses for the day with all donations going directly to Guide Dogs. Hannah, Stella, Julie, Liz, Nicola and Linda were the six local women who took part in the activity. They were lucky enough to meet a friendly guide dog who made a guest appearance in store where he met members of the community and collected further donations for the cause. Fundraising continues all month in the Tavistock store where people are invited to call in and enter a competition to ?Guess the name of the Guide Dog? or ?Match the pet to their owner? for their chance to win a soft cuddly toy. Nicola Hambly, store director at Tavistock says: ?We are delighted to be able to support this charity which carries out invaluable work within the local community. ?We all had a great time dressing up in our shades and meeting the guide dog raising lots of money for a great cause and having loads of fun in the process. ?We?re inviting locals to come in and enter our fun competition, to help us raise as much money for Guide Dogs as possible.? The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association is known and loved for delivering first class mobility services that meet the needs of blind and partially sighted people, with the guide dog at the core. The charity is also acknowledged for its eye health information and education campaigns. It costs £10 a day to train, breed and support each guide dog throughout its lifetime.
