STAFF and volunteers at the Ockment Community Centre gave up their Saturday to join the Tidy Britain Group's National Spring Clean Campaign and tackle one of Okehampton 'grotspots' at the weekend.
With protective tabards and rubbish sacks provided, the group attacked the litter and rubble that accumulates around the centre every day.
Centre manager, Lindsay Svensson thanked everyone who came to help: 'We have a constant battle against littering in this area of the town,' she said.
'Every Monday morning staff have to clear up rubbish, dog mess, broken glass and other horrible items to prevent anyone being injured as we are on the route to the primary school.'
The stars of the clean up were undoubtedly the members of the Okehampton Army Cadets who worked with good humour and vigour throughout the day, said Mrs Svensson.
The Just Bin It campaign is running throughout April and anyone can get involved by calling the free phone hotline 0800 7837838.
