PLANS for a controversial 44-acre solar farm at Callington will be discussed by Cornwall Council's planners today (Thursday).

The decision had been deferred by the council's strategic planning committee for a site meeting to be held at the location in Haye Road.

Sunpower Corporation UK have made the application and two consultation days have been held in the town where people have been able to see the plans and talk to consultants.

But the plan has met with opposition locally and from the town council, which says the sight of 15,000 solar panels will create an eyesore in the area of outstanding natural beauty. The farm will be visible from a wide area including Kit Hill.

Cornwall councillor for Callington Andrew Long said even if the application was eventually approved by Cornwall council it may not go ahead as Government plans to lower feed-in tariffs could make the solar farm unviable.
