TAVISTOCK Squash Club were home to Sidmouth, who with two matches left in this season have already won the league.
Playing for Tavistock at number five was Mike Gray who, having won two games last week, went one step better by getting the home team away to a winning start.
Mike ran well throughout the game, continuing to return what his opponent thought were winning shots. Frustration and a lack of ability to produce good width and length balls by Sidmouth gave Mike the chance to gain his first win for the team 9-1, 9-5, 9-6.
Peter Walsh at number four found himself up against a very mobile opponent. To Peter?s credit he dug in to win the second game 9-6 with accurate reverse wall shots with which his opponent struggled. Unfortunately Peter could not secure any other games.
Playing at number three Pete Middleton made a good start by taking the first game 9-2. Sidmouth?s number three started to read Pete?s game, which resulted in him being able to vary his game more, thus forcing Pete into errors at the front of the court. Pete failed to regain the initiative and lost 1-3.
Stuart Cox, elevated up the playing order to number two, was pitched, not for the first time, against a skilful quality player who could command a number one slot in most teams in this league.
The Sidmouth player?s ability to take the ball early and read Stuart?s game resulted in a comfortable win 0-3.
Colin Grice playing at number one, as injury and winter holidays reduced player availability, found himself struggling from the start to dominate any area of the court. His opponent?s ability to read, reach and retrieve most of Colin?s shots meant that despite working hard he had no reply for this all round, high quality player. He lost 0-3.
Sidmouth won overall by 4-1 but despite this strong and comfortable win a sporting and enjoyable evening was had by all.
