AT the weekend seven Spooners Pony Club members went to Winkleigh to compete in the South Tetcott hunt, hunter trial.
Getting the day off to a good start in the 2'3" were George Scott (on Topaz), Sam Underwood (Billy Whizz) and Jess Harisson (Millie). All of them rode confidently around the course for Jess to come fifth George to come seventh and Sam put in a polished clear round to complete the class.
In the 2' 6" class Henry Ware, Jess Harrison, Lucy Scott and Megan Groom flew the flag.
Lucy and Jess both whizzed around the course giving their horses lots of confidence through excellent riding!! Meaning Jess was fourth riding millie and Lucy fifth on merika. Henry, riding his pony Pepsi, had one refusal on the course but rode well and didn't show his inexperience at this level.
Megan also had one refusal but she too rode well and gave her pony Blaze confidence and completed happily!
Two of last years Tavistock College one day event team took the first two places in the main event of the day, the 3ft 3ins open.
Rachel Ware, riding her 15.2in. gelding Archie, stood out in the preliminaries. Archie, looking super fit after spending the season hunting with the Spooners, went for it over the timed section of the course finishing four seconds clear of the field. In second place was Lara Hopkins, riding her show jumper Connemara Finn — the only pony in the competition, in only its second cross country event.
