NORTH Tawton Rugby Club is celebrating after a generous sponsor came forward this month, enabling members to face the future with confidence. Following an appeal for help in the Times recently, Sampford Courtenay firm Lamisell Beams Ltd has agreed to sponsor the club to the tune of £2,000. Committee member Rose Crisp said the club was ?delighted ? to put it mildly?. ?I haven?t come down off Cloud 9 yet,? said Rose, who said the sponsorship means grass cutting and maintenance at the club?s three pitches can now be undertaken professionally. ?It?s been a big headache for us. It?s an eight hour job just to get it cut, and that?s if it?s not too long. When we were doing it, it meant someone was either losing time from work or losing their spare time ? it was a real problem,? said Rose. The club moved to its present site seven years ago ? this season it hopes to field two mens? teams and a women?s team in addition to its nine mini rugby sides. Lamisell Beams Ltd supply laminated timber beams and structures ? the company has recently secured a contract for the new Padstow Lifeboat Station. Sid Lew of Lamisell said: ?We?ve sponsored the ladies at North Tawton Rugby Club for a couple of years now, so as our ladies play there, and it?s a local club that?s 120 years old, we couldn?t let them play on scrappy grass! ?It?s a lovely club, they have a lot of people playing, of all ages, from under 8s upwards. ?I think it?s brilliant that people are encouraged to go and play and enjoy themselves ? by sponsoring them, we feel this is giving something back to the community we live and work in.?
