A FIELD of 40 runners took part in the Tavistock Rotary Club Fun Run in splendid sunshine last Sunday.
Two routes were run, both starting and finishing at West Devon Borough Council?s offices at Kilworthy Park.
The fastest time for the shorter one-and-a-half-mile route was recorded by Sam Eriksson who came in with a time of 7 minutes 23 seconds. Only two other runners recorded sub-8 minute times, Matt McClung and Susie Blandford.
The longer seven-mile route, which took the field around Mill HIll and Wilminstone, was tackled by 24 runners. First place was taken by the borough council?s own ICT strategy manager Pierre Morel, with a time of 55 minutes and 54 seconds. Second and third position were taken by Chris Halliday and Wally Lake respectively.
Helen Dickinson was the best placed woman, finishing fifth overall with a time of one hour and 35 seconds.
The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Tavistock and Tavistock Athletics Club ? proceeds went to the Rotary?s campaign to eradicate polio.
Organiser David Incoll said around £90 had been raised by the event and he thanked those who turned up to support the event as well as those who competed. ?The runners really appreciated the crowd waiting until everyone had finished and cheering them all home,? he said.
