THE Chagford Show at Dog Marsh Bridge Fields on the banks of the River Teign once more proved a great day out for all the family and an enjoyable experience for those both from 'town and country.'

There was plenty to entertain. For high octane excitement Jez Avery's motorbike stunt got the crowd all revved up. with his thrilling display of wheelies, jumps and power slides.

There were plenty of animal lovers who were charmed and entertained in equal measure by the dogs from the 'Paws for Thought Canine Display team.' The talented pooches wowing, bowing and bow-wowing with their dog ladder walking, fun agility races and other canine capers.

Terrier racing, courtesy of Ian Brackenbury, is always a crowd favourite.

The Mid Devon Foxhounds went on parade with horses, riders and hounds beautifully turned out and responding to the sound of the horn.

A calvalcade of vintage cars and tractors took to the field to provide a splendid sight of these magnificent 'mechanised workhorses.'

The show secretary said a big thank you to all those who had made the Chagford Show 2013 another successful event and one of the highlights of the West Devon calendar.

Sally Hutchings told the Times: 'Without all the willing volunteers who put so much into this event and the tireless work of the committee members throughout the year we would struggle to put on such a show of this scale and quality.

'This show is so important because it brings the community together in so many ways. It's somewhere for the whole family to enjoy and one of the annual events of the year where the farming community have the opportunity to meet visitors and talk about what they do — even those people who might not know one end of a cow from the other!

Sally said that notably the popular driving classes were up this year. Sheep entries had doubled while in the horses Shetland and Dartmoor ponies were well supported.

'We have 200 trade stands with a wide diversification and had to turn some away unfortunately which we don't like to do, because there is only so much space. The same thing happened in the vintage vehicle section where we had 73 entries.'

In his address show president Wilf Hutchings said: 'My thanks must go to all the voluntary help that goes into creating a famously unique show.
