MUD-COVERED teams will battle it out at Bere Ferrers quay on Saturday, June 30 to become the champions of this year?s Watersports Day. Mud games will start at 3pm, with water events, including the greasy pole, taking over as the tide comes in. Young spectators will be able to join in crab catching from approximately 4.30pm and there will be a variety of stalls and a static motor-cycle display to browse. Refreshments include a barbecue, a bar, the WI stall and, from 7pm, a hog roast. There will also be pony rides, a bouncy castle, a raffle and face painting. During the evening, entertainment will be provided by the local Bere Band, followed by Red Vegas, playing everything from golden oldies to modern sounds. Fireworks will follow at 11pm, with a disco until midnight. Those attending by car should follow the arrows to the Recreation Field parking area, as there will be no parking area in the village itself. l Donations from the proceeds of last year?s Watersports Day were presented at a recent meeting at Bere Ferrers Social Club. Watersports organiser Trevor Grinstead presented cheques for £200 each to Bere Alston Regeneration Project and Bere Ferrers Villagers? Group and £100 each to the Friends of Bere Alston Surgery, Bere Alston Bowling Club and Bere Ferrers Church Hall.
