Cornish Guardian East Cornwall Premier Division Holsworthy 4 Tavistock 2nds 0 AFTER a succession of lacklustre performances and a series of upheavals within the team, which hopefully are now resolved, Tavistock were looking for a decent result from this game. A promising start saw the Tavistock midfield gaining the ascendancy and the defence doing a fine job preventing Holsworthy?s front line from making any impression. Five minutes into the game Tavistock could easily have taken the lead when the ball rebounded off the crossbar and was hastily cleared. Despite few chances Holsworthy were the first to open their account after thirty minutes, when an intercepted ball in defence was blasted into the net. Three minutes later another raking shot from fifteen yards put the home side 2-0 up, very much against the run of play. The start of the second half saw Tavistock apply the same pressure to Holsworthy but despite some fine interplay and passing Tavistock failed to find that final telling ball in the area. With the Tavistock defence and mid-field pushing further up the field in an effort to get something from the game the obvious danger was a counter-attack, and fifteen minutes into the half Holsworthy managed just that and punished the visitors with a third goal. Tavistock heads did not drop and they continued valiantly to hammer away at the Holsworthy defence. But tired legs were now apparent and with no subs on the bench Tavistock were running out of steam. Holsworthy?s fourth goal fourteen minutes from the end was almost a replica of their third, catching the Tavistock defence out of position on the counter. A score line that at the end of the day really did not reflect either the game or Tavistock?s spirit.
