TAVISTOCK Athletic Club's fastest female long-distance runner, Jo Meek, has once again excelled.
At Truro Half Marathon recently, Jo was first lady to finish in an excellent time of 1hour, 26minutes.
On the same day, nearer home, 16 TACs turned out to race in Plymouth Harrier's 6 Moor Miles. The race starts at Yelverton and is almost entirely off road, set on tracks and grassland. Heavy showers before the start meant that the course was even more challenging than usual, with plenty of mud. Nevertheless, Charlie Lloyd, David Chanter and Hazel Walker all improved on their 2010 times, Hazel by more than two minutes, finishing third in her F40 age-group.
Jim Cole continued his fine form to win the race, almost a minute ahead of the second finisher. Next TAC home in eighth position was Richard Drage, winning the M50 age group with Chris Champion a few seconds behind. Becca Deane won her F40 age group, Trevor Williams was first M65 and Ann Woodhouse won F65.
Special mention should be made of Darryl Beeby, running his first race with the club and finishing in creditable time.
TAC times: Jim Cole 37minutes, 3seconds, Richard Drage 40.44, Chris Champion (third in age) 40.58, Martin Exley (second in age) 42.28, Charlie Lloyd 43.14, Peter Bazley (second in age) 47.26, Sam Lloyd 48.53, David Twine (third in age ) 49.19, David Chanter 50.33, Becca Deane 52.44, Tony Shearer 55.19, Trevor Williams 55.33, Darryl Beeby 56.25, Hazel Walker 1.00.35, Paul Bumford 1.01.09, Ann Woodhouse 1.19.17.
