A TREASURER of a Callington social club was presented with a gift and thanked for her hard work and contribution to the community (pictured right).

Josée Williams was surprised with the presentation from her friends and colleagues in Callington New Outlook social club and other local organisations.

As well as being treasurer of New Outlook, Josée helps out in the local Oxfam shop, makes costumes for the Prim-Raf theatre, draws up the schedules for the town's Autumn Show, helps in the kitchen at Stoke Climsland Old School community centre and is a regular participant in the Callington Carnival and the Knit and natter group. When she has a spare moment, she is a polling clerk at elections.

New Outlook chairman Shirley Morse, who lined up the surprise at Callington Cricket Club, said: 'Josée can always be relied upon to help out in any crisis and make it seem less of a problem because of her cheerful demeanour. Callington New Outlook wouldn't function very smoothly without her and there is a good reason for us calling her our "treasure of a treasurer"! We all wonder how on earth she has time to do everything.'

Barbara Thorpe, president of Prim-Raf, said: 'She is invaluable. She helps with the costumes and she just works so hard, sorting all the children's clothes.'

Eileen Sturt, from Callington Autumn Show, also praised Josée: 'She is the proverbial rock within every one of her many groups of friends and organisations. She is warm, kind and always willing to help wherever help is needed.'

Josée moved to Callington with her husband Ray in 1988 not knowing anybody until her neighbours introduced her to New Outlook.

'I say yes to everything — this is my problem,' said Josée. 'I just love making people happy and doing things. If you enjoy it, you always find time to fit it in.'

Presenting Josée with a bottle of liqueur, Tesco Callington community champion Alan Woollcombe said: 'Josée gives so much of her time to the town, that it's a real pleasure to be able to give her something back — even if she's so busy she won't have time to drink it.'
