THIRTY teams of disabled footballers took part in the Devon Ability Counts Leagues at Tavistock Community FC on Sunday.
The Tavi Specials Adults won league two and had a great show of support by parents, carers and supporters but from the start of the day for the first time this season they were put on their back foot by some terrific performance by other teams.
Old rivals Newton Soccability FC beat them and later in the day Torquay Utd caught them four times, but their captain Bobby Upham lifted the squad and they won their last match of the day to take the title over Plymouth Argyle Pilgrims who were runners-up.
The U16s, coached by Robyn Hammond, had some tough games losing two and winning one but they really enjoyed their day and played some good football.
Organiser Allen Lewis said: 'All in all this was a very successful event for the Ability Counts Leagues held for the first time at Tavistock.
'A big thank you must go out once again for the Specials coaches, Will and Tom Reed and Robyn Hammond as well as vice chairman of Tavistock Community Football Club John Mulley for all his hard work in setting up the seven pitches for the teams to play on and to Oggy Oggy Pasty Company for their excellent service and league sponsorship.
The Son-Rise Cup Festival takes place on the weekend of May 21/22 — organisers are hoping for big support for disabilty football. More details on http://www.sonrisecup.co.uk">www.sonrisecup.co.uk
