TAVISTOCK College has been awarded a special highly commended certificate by the Royal Horticulture Society in the competition Campaign for School Gardening. The award was given in recognition of the hard work and enthusiasm that the college gardening team has shown in the last year. Following on from this award, teacher Helen Harris has organised a gardening club for families of students in Years 7 to 9, and invites all to come along. The club will start on Tuesday, June 10 from 3.30pm 4.30pm, and will run for four weeks initially. If you would like to join, contact Helen Harris on [email protected]">[email protected] or call 01822 614231. Mrs Harris said: 'We have come a long way, but there is so much more we can do at the college and I would be delighted to welcome anyone, of any age, who would like to help us. 'No tools or expertise required — just enthusiasm, and some effort in return for a cup of tea and the satisfaction of improving the grounds for all our students to enjoy.' The gardening team consists of students: Year 11 Rebecca Friend, Drew Godden, Tristan Griffiths, Kurt Nosworthy, Andrew Perkin, Charlotte Watson, Jack Worth, Tom Worth; Year 10 Luke Rowe and Rhys Bould Lynch; Year 8 Ash Ormandy; Year 7 Paul Lewis; staff John Collacott, Julie Edwards, Cathy George, Julie Greener, Helen Harris, Nikki Sheehan.
