THE historic Church House at South Tawton will be the setting for a special event this Bank Holiday Monday, to reflect the medieval building?s history ? and provide fun and entertainment for all the family. The Church House was used to brew ale in days gone by and provided a meeting place for parishioners to meet travellers and exchange news. On Monday, the refurbished building will hold a Church House ale day which will include music and dancing, food and drink and a specially brewed Church House Ale, provided by the Seven Stars pub. From 2pm there will be games, a quiz, a drawing competition for the children, plus wandering minstrels, pottery and rope making demonstrations and the chance to see how thatch is constructed. There will be a display of old tools, medieval dancing, step dancing, broom dancing, a maypole and lots of refreshments. Visitors will have the opportunity to see a variety of animals, including hounds and hawks and there will be a cake stall and raffle. From 7.30pm, a medieval meal of meat or vegetable stew and rolls will be available in the Church House with music provided by a harpist and fiddler. Tickets, priced at £3.50, are available from South Zeal Stores and Sticklepath Stores.
