Devon and Exeter three

Pinhoe 4

SOUTH Zeal started well on Saturday and could easily have been a goal up in the early stages as Darren Gilbert twice outstripped the Pinhoe defence only to be denied by the Pinhoe keeper on both occassions.

With South Zeal looking the more likely to score first a deflection on the edge of the Zeal penalty area left one of the Pinhoe strikers free to beat Reg Wonnacott in the United goal from close range.

One down at half time the home side tried to push for the equaliser but found themselves three down after 20 minutes of the second half as Pinhoe broke twice and aided by two defensive errors punished Zeal with two well taken goals.

South Zeal never gave up and reduced the deficit to one when first Redd Cann smashed home a great shot from 20 yards after a good move down the left.

Lee Gilbert then scored an equally good goal as he collected a pass from Jamie Atherton beat two defenders and hit a great shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

United had chances to equalise but could not find a way through the visitors defence and with 10 minutes left Pinhoe made the game safe with a well taken free kick.

n This week South Zeal are away to Beacon Knights, kick-off 2.15pm.
