Lapford 2

AFTER losing 6-1 at Axminster the previous week Zeal went to Lapford with a stronger squad on Saturday and drew a game that they should have won had the home keeper not made some great saves and the Zeal forwards not missed some very good first half chances.

In the first half the home side were restricted to the odd break but Zeal could not convert good chances so the teams turned round for the second half at 0-0.

With the slope at their backs Lapford came more into the game in the second half and went two up after 15 minutes of the restart when a cross was not delt with by the Zeal defence - allowing an easy close range goal and a cross producing a great header from 10 yards that gave Sean Sendacock no chance in the Zeal goal.

Zeal then pushed Robbie Sendacock forward and with 15 minutes left Redd Cann put Harley Cann through to reduce the deficit.

Ten minutes later Zeal were level when a great run and pass by Dan Wakeham found Robbie Sendacock who levelled the score at 2-2 with a great finish from 15 yards.

Lapford were now hanging on and only some desperate defending stopped Zeal from claiming all three points.

• On Monday South Zeal United are away to Sandford, kick-off 6.30pm.
