FLOWERS and handicrafts, vintage vehicles and a dog show were among the attractions at this year’s Sourton Show.
The village event on Saturday, August 17 was held at Sourton Parish Hall and on the field outside, thanks to the generosity of owner Ken Hobbs.
Show secretary Abi Horn said: ‘It was a successful day with new competitors entering and the hall was full and colourful with all the different entries and skills on show.
‘We were lucky with the weather for the dog show, new to Sourton Show and definitely a feature to stay in future.
‘We had some lovely examples of classic vehicles in the field with the dog show and a steady trade was held by Treetops Pre-School serving refreshments and Serene Sanctuary doing mini treatments.
‘We were donated some very generous raffle prizes by Devon Dogs, the Bearslake Inn, Dunns Dairy Exbourne, the Fox and Hounds and National Trust Finch Foundry.’
Organiser Geraldine Jury added: ’It was an absolutely smashing show, just brilliant. In the hall itself we had the produce and handicrafts and flowers. We had lots of entries and the children’s entries were just fantastic.
‘Then outdoors we had our vintage display with tractors and cars and there was a Field Marshall tractor and a live-in van, which is what they used to tow behind the steamrollers.
‘It is the first time we have done a dog show and we didn’t know how many entries we would get, but in fact dogs came out of the woodwork,’ she added.
‘There were loads of them and they had a whale of a time. We are definitely going to do it again next year.’
