A GIFTED musician from Meavy has been awarded a prestigious prize for her violin playing. Flora Zajicek, 13, has been awarded the Hamilton Akaster Memorial Prize for Strings, which is presented annually to players in the Plymouth and Tavistock area for the highest marks in a grade 5 or 6 Associated Board of Music exam. Flora, a pupil at Mount House School in Tavistock, passed grade 5 with distinction and has recently won a music scholarship to Blundells School in Tiverton. She is taught by Elizabeth Kilpatrick. Other talented music students from Mount House have also been awarded scholarships. Harpist Georgina Sutcliffe-Maynard has received an All-Rounder Scholarship to Bryanston School in Dorset for her all-round ability, with particular emphasis on music, drama and art. Yume Fujita has won a Major Music Scholarship to Sherborne School. Yume has recently achieved a distinction in piano at Grade 8.
