OKEHAMPTON Primary School will be closing its gates to the public over the Easter period.

In order to preserve its status as a non-public right of way it is necessary to shut off access.

Headteacher Brian Cunningham said the school had to make a statement that it was not a right of way.

?We are not trying to be awkward. But we have to let people know that they will not be able to go through,? he said.

?A lot of people that live nearby come through the school thinking it is a public right of way.

The gates will be shut from the evening of Thursday, April 17 to the morning of Tuesday, April 22.
