A SEVENTEEN-year old Tavistock student last week was awarded the popularity prize in the Miss Devon 2012 regional qualifier for Miss England. after receiving more than 500 votes.

The event, organised by Front Models and held at the Grand Hotel in Torquay, saw Sophie Murdoch take to the catwalk alongside 15 other contestants from across the county and compete for the title of Miss Devon in three exciting rounds.

Sophie said: 'I am so thrilled to receive the Miss Popularity prize in Miss Devon as it is so nice to receive so much support from all my friends and family.

'This is the first time I have ever competed in a pageant and it has been a fantastic day. I have met and made some great friends and I can't wait to get up and do it all again next year.

'I feel like the whole experience has really helped me to increase my confidence and self-esteem and would urge anyone else considering entering to give it a go.' 

Miss Devon was won by 23-year-old full-time model Charlotte Holmes.

The event was hosted by former Miss England and manager at Front Models, Laura Coleman.
