THE countdown has started for this year's Devon Games to Inspire at Exeter University on June 18.

Formerly known as the Devon Youth Games the event will include badminton, girls' cricket, gymnastics, high five netball, hockey, netball, table tennis, girls tag rugby, tennis and volleyball.

This year, Team West Devon is being coordinated by OCRA, a charity that aims to maintain and develop sporting/recreational opportunities and facilities for West Devon.

Trials for the sports start at 10am on Saturday, May 7, with the hockey trial at Okehampton Astro-Turf, a welcome return for hockey after a year out of the games.

Information on the trials is being sent to local schools, leisure centres and sports clubs and is also available via the OCRA website at http://www.ocrasport.org.uk">www.ocrasport.org.uk where you can download a participation form. For any queries call OCRA on 01837 54546. Even if you have never played a sport before, please feel free to come along and give it a go, all abilities are welcome.

Stuart Lord, Ocra's activity development manager, said: 'Last year was a very successful year for West Devon, with the team winning the competition for the first time.

'We hope this year will be no different, replicating the success of last year but most significantly creating a fabulous atmosphere and a day full of fun and enjoyment. So come along to the trials and be part of Team West Devon 2011.'
