WHEN is a Facebook page not a Facebook page? When it says it belongs to Tavistock Town Council, members heard during a meeting last week.

The council's finance committee heard that a page had been set up on the social networking site in the name of Tavistock Town Council — but not by anyone involved with the authority.

Members queried the legality of such a site — but were told there was little they could do about it.

Cllr Harry Smith, chairman of the finance committee, said: 'There's nothing particularly offensive on there, but there could be things put up that we would not want to see under the heading of the town council.'

Members hoped that readers of the Times would note that the web page was not a genuine town council one.
