A FOOTBALL coach from Tavistock has won the county male coach of the year award.
Mark Wickett, who is youth development coach for the Tavistock Thistles Football Club was the winner in a category which included more than 50 other nominees.
Mark works with young footballers aged from nine up to 16, and is involved in training sessions two or three nights a week. He was nominated by St Peter's Junior School and by a number of parents of the players he coaches.
Mark said he had not expected to win the award, and had been delighted actually to be named the county's top football coach.
Mark, who lives in the town, was presented with his prestigious award at a ceremony in Barnstaple on Thursday, November 22. Mark was presented with the award by the guest speaker at the evening, Vicki Sheen, a bronze medalist at the Blind World Sailing championship in 1999. Mayor of West Devon Cllr Robin Pike was also at the event to honour coaching achievements in the county.
