STICKLEPATH Sports Club Committee would like to give a big vote of thanks to everyone who braved the atrocious elements to take part in this year's pram race on Sunday.

Eighteen teams saw fit to get soaked to the skin to raise money for local charities and chairman of the committee Jon Padfield said: 'I take my hat off to them all!

'My thanks must also go to the people who marshalled the event, for without their thankless duty of standing around getting absolutely soaked to the skin and freezing cold, events like this would not happen,' he said.

'It says a lot for local community spirit that people still turn up to participate in conditions as they were on Sunday.'

Prams in all shapes and sizes lined up for the annual race starting from outside the old Rising Sun pub.

Each construction could have any number of fixed wheels but no mechanical assistance and the rules involve every team member consuming a drink (alcoholic or non alcoholic) in every pub in Sticklepath, South Zeal and South Tawton.

Mr Padfield said from what the committee could deduce from some very soggy paperwork the results were as follows. Fancy dress:The Borg Tors, Construction trophy: The pirate ship, Veterans trophy: Minnow Penna, Men's racing: Boy Racers (31 mins), Women's racing: The Mad Monks-(51mins).
