MEMBERS of Tavistock Youth Café (TYC), along with other supporters, rowed nearly 40 kilometres to raise funds for the group.
The youth café was recently donated a rowing machine from Devon County Councillor for Tavistock Debo Sellis and they decided to put it to good use by having a rowing challenge for the young people at TYC.
Tavistock Youth Café manager Vicki Lloyd-Walsh said: ‘They had to row as far up the Tamar as possible (using the rowing machine). Lots of young people took part, as well as the Tavistock Wheelers cycling club and the mayor Mandy Ewings.
‘The Tavistock Wheelers made a huge contribution by buying coffee and cakes as part of their Sunday ride coffee stop. A big thank you to them and the young people for making it such a successful day.’
The young people managed the equivalent of rowing from Morwellham Quay to Plymouth Sound and back to Halton Quay — virtually 38 kilometres — and raised £213. The money will be used to fund the TYC’s Young, Fit and Proud programme of activities.
Tavistock Youth Café will be hosting its Christmas Band Night tonight (Thursday) at its premises on Pixon Lane from 7pm to 9.30pm to which everyone is welcome.
