BERE Alston has a newly refurbished and improved Plymco store thanks to an investment of £100,000 in the shop.

The refurbishment — which involved fitting a new ceiling and floor — was part of Plymouth and South West Co-operative Society's £10 million investment programme.

Before work began, the society carried out a customer survey to find out local requirements. As a result of this feedback the store has been extended by 60 per cent and the range of products has been significantly increased — including a 40 per cent increase in fresh produce and double the off-licence products.

Shane Terry, store manager, said: 'We're all delighted that the store is now finally open after so much disruption whilst the work was being carried out. We now have a store that we can be proud of.'

Chief executive Douglas Fletcher said they were working hard to deliver well-managed stores and highly-trained staff who would play a more active role in their communities.
