East Cornwall premier Bere Alston United 5
Biscovey 2
BERE started brightly with Dan Follett making some good runs down the left and Warren Daw featuring well in midfield on his home debut.
Follett and Zac Beesley missed good chances to give Bere an early lead and for the next 15 minutes, a combination of sloppy passing and hesitant defending from Bere allowed Biscovey to seize the initiative.
It was against the run of play that Bere broke down the Biscovey left and Dan Follett's cross was misjudged by the Biscovey keeper, giving man of the match Darren Smalley the simplest of taps-ins to put Bere undeservedly in front.
Biscovey struck back when Brian Poole converted Dale Isbell's cross and the visitors took the lead when Steve Ford was on hand to prod home Kevin Grainger's free kick.
Bere's response was immediate and they were level within minutes when Zac Beesley found Darren Smalley who scored his and Bere's second.
Bere came out a different side in the second half and were soon in front as Dan Follett burst through the Biscovey defence and his goalbound effort was tapped home by Darren Smalley to complete his hat-trick.
A neat combination between Mark Wheeler, Marcus Pethick and Darren Smalley was brought to an abrupt halt when man of the match Smalley was crudely upended in the penalty area and Zac Beesley stepped up to ram home the resultant spot kick for Bere's fourth.
Marcus Pethick completed the scoring after he was sent racing clear on the half-way line by Warren Daw before finishing with aplomb.
Bere manager Kevin Taylor was a little disappointed with his team's lack of discipline and respect for their opponents in the final 15 minutes and feels that a depleted Biscovey deserve a lot of credit for their performance.
