BLUSTERY, cold but dry conditions greeted both junior and senior members from Tavistock Athletic Club on Sunday.
The muddy conditions really did make it a cross country meeting to remember, with shoes coming off and lots of sliding around.
Lottie Fulton in the U11 girls' race took off with something to prove and led from start to finish.
Fifth place went to eight-year-old Laura Aspen who, for one making her cross-country debut, ran well beyond her years.
Ninth, 10th and 12th places also went to club members. Making their debuts were Sophie Cuthbert, Tabitha Gould and Laura Rasjick.
The U11 boys' saw Nathan Wonnacott gain third place just missing out on second but running extremely well.
Luke Aspen also ran well, pacing himself to gain fifth place. He was followed home closely by many a Tavistock runner with Tom Worth seventh, Alex Cuthbert eighth, Jimmy Hubbard ninth, Andrew Lees 10th and Adam Roberts 12th. Not to be outdone seven-year-old Rupert Gould and Charlie Hubbard finished 19th and 20th respectively.
The U13 girls' had three runners all moving up from last season's U11 and all continued where they left off.
Emma Passmore again was out in front, finishing in second place, closely followed by Sarah Guy in fourth just getting caught in the final 10 metres and Kayleigh Wonnacott in fifth.
Alex Richard in the the U13 boys showed the valuable experience he has gained from the Westward League and finished in a creditable fifth place. Robin Lees ran well to finish in 12th.
The U15 boys again saw Paul Rowe run strongly to finish in third place.
Adam Tofield, continuing to improve, finished in fifth and Shaun Hewitt ninth.
The club are also looking for girls to compete at U15 level and meet at Tavistock College at 6pm on Tuesdays.
The senior men ran the undulating course and they were Roger Hewitt who finished in 27th and another club debutant Phil Worth who finished in 29th.
After this first meeting the U11 and U13 boys and girls have taken early leads in the team events.
