FOR the first time a skater has been elected chair of Taviskate, the organisation set up to build a skate park in Tavistock.
Richard Porter, 24, of Treetops, Tavistock was voted in as chair at the annual meeting held in Tavistock Primary School last week.
Richard, who started skating at the age of 11, helped to organise the hugely successful skate jam in the town with more than 150 skaters and spectators enjoying the day.
He said his aim was to achieve and maintain a good quality skate park for the community of Tavistock.
?This has been a vision of mine and many others for a long time,? he said. ?I would like to say a big thank you to Bob Pilbeam who has chaired the group for the past five years and thank all members of Taviskate, past and present for all their hard work and dedication over the years.
?I will try my best to make the skate park dream a reality.?
