A NEW shelter has been provided for the skateboarders who use the Okehampton skate facility opposite Brayhams Terrace, thanks to MCTi funding. Consultations carried out last summer by the Devon Heartlands (MCTi) programme identified the need for improved facilities for young people and the provision of the shelter represents a first step. The shelter project was made possible by generous grants from the EX20 Lottery, Okehampton United Non-Ecclesiastical Charity, Devon County Council and the Manor House Hotel, together with foundation project funds from Okehampton Area MCTi Partnership. The Rev Philip Wagstaff, who championed the Devon Heartlands project said: ?It is good to deliver a much needed project for the young people in the area. It?s great to be involved with such a dynamic group of people interested in delivering such projects now and in the future.? Mr Wagstaff said he would like to thank everyone involved in the project for their support, in particular Mo Morel, West Devon Borough Council?s Youth Officer for her work in co-ordinating the project. Christine Marsh, chair of Devon Heartlands Community Forum, said: ?This is the first part of a series of projects we are aiming to deliver with help of other local organisations and agencies for the young people of the area. We have initiated other projects in Chagford, Drewsteignton and Okehampton, which we hope will be delivered this summer.?
