SIXTH form students at Okehampton College have been busy raising money for various charities by holding different events this year.

Last month students held a pyjama day to raise money for the Haiti earthquake appeal.

Other events included wearing pink to raise money for Devon Air Ambulance and holding a quiz night. The events have so far raised more than £100 between the charities.

Last week students welcomed Jenny Reynolds from the Send A Cow charity to explain the work of the organisation, which put donations towards sending a cow or other farm animal to a less economically developed country to benefit a family.

The students support a range of charities and are keen to hold fundraising events to aid local institutions or organisations on national and international levels.

Leader of the college's sixth form Neil Sproats said: 'I am delighted with the efforts our sixth form students are making to help improve the lives of less fortunate people.'

The students are also holding an auction of promises, with items donated by local businesses, which include a signed Michael Morpurgo book and a £40 photo portrait voucher.

The main beneficiary of the event will be Cancer Research, with a small amount of the total being put towards the Year 13 leavers' summer ball.

The auction is on Thursday, April 1 at 7pm in the Octagon Theatre.
