SIX candidates are lined up to contest a vacant seat in the Tavistock North ward of West Devon Borough Council.

The seat was held by the Conservatives until the resignation of Darren Lake last month.

Four political candidates — Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat and UK Independence Party — and two Independents are to do battle.

They are: Adam Bridgewater, Liberal Democrat; Moira Brown, Labour; Jeff Moody, Independent; Andrew Mudge, UK Independence Party; Colin Rogers, Conservative; Daniel Worth, Independent.

Polling day is Thursday March 22. The polling station will be Tavistock Methodist Church.

The current make-up of the council is: Conservatives 18 seats, Independents 9, Liberal Democrats 3, one vacancy.
